Career Coaching
– When Your Next Job Needs to be the Right One
Is a career coach the answer to your questions about your future work life?
It very well could be.
Especially if you are asking questions such as:
- In what position and type of company can I best use my skills?
- How do I find out if the company and I share the same values?
- Should I delve deeper into my expertise or seek a leadership position?
- Is the word “career” even the right word for me, or am I primarily looking for a good work life where I learn something while the job fits into my private life with family and leisure interests?
A career coach can help you progress in your career or help you find a work life across positions at the same level. Contrary to what many believe, a career is not just about progressing and being promoted. It is equally about using your skills for tasks that best align with your values. Therefore, your next position could be as a:
- Specialist
- Researcher
- Teacher
Perhaps with employees. Perhaps without. Because that is not the most important thing.
Find Your Values and The Path to a Good Work Life
There is no set formula for what constitutes a good work life. However, there is one parameter that you can always rely on, no matter what decision you need to make: your values. Therefore, you need to know your values to understand what you are seeking.
A career coaching program with me includes questions like these:
- What is important to you? Both in your work life and in your private life?
- Which of these values are the most important?
- What goals do you have? Both in your work life and in your private life?
- How much should your work occupy your life?
- How important is it for you to perform tasks related to your field?
- What do you like about your current job?
- What do you dislike?
And you will often hear me ask the follow-up question, “Why is that?” when you answer. My career coaching is based on a thorough examination of where you are and where you want to be, before we find the path to get there together. We cannot find your new path until we understand what is most important to you, whether you are dissatisfied with your current job or looking for a change for other reasons, such as wanting to learn more or handle more complex tasks or tasks of a different nature.
Am I the Right Career Coach for You?
Maybe.
My name is Susanne Würtz Waltenburg. I originally graduated from the Aarhus School of Business (now part of Aarhus University). I have 25 years of leadership experience, making me adept at finding good paths for employees, middle managers, and the company as a whole. I also have extensive knowledge of what is happening across companies and how different skills can be utilized. I know when to ask which questions for maximum benefit.
During my 25 years as a leader, I gathered all the knowledge I could find, related to leadership, strategy, business development, and especially how to create a workplace where employees feel they belong – with their skills, values, and personality. That knowledge and some tools developed based on it can now help you find your next job.
If you are considering a career coaching program with me, we will start with a free introductory conversation of up to one hour, where I will hear about your thoughts and assess if I can help you. If we agree to work together, I will assess how many sessions you need.
If possible, we will schedule all sessions in our calendars right away. It provides peace of mind to know what we have agreed upon. Often, we will plan sessions with 3 to 4 weeks in between, so you have time to work on some of the questions we review together.
Before the first session, you will answer these questions via email:
- If you were to give this program an overall title, what would it be?
- What topics do you want us to cover in this program?
- What goals do you want to achieve with this program?
Because although I certainly have my set questions that we work from, it’s important that we also follow your agenda. And considerations about a new job usually involve questions and topics that are not directly related to the job itself.
To ensure we have peace and quiet to find the right answers, all sessions last 2 hours. It requires delving deep and staying long enough to uncover the interesting answers that may not be immediately apparent. Because life is simply too short to have the wrong job. Therefore, it’s worthwhile for us to lay a solid foundation for what’s important in your career.
As a starting point, all conversations take place at my office at Ole Suhrs Gade 21, kld. tv, 1354 Copenhagen K.
It’s also possible to meet online if it suits you better. If there’s any way we can meet in person at the beginning of the process, I would recommend it.
